This shot was taken inside one of the blinds Doug Gardner had set up in the middle of one of the ponds where the Tundra Swan congregate. We sat in about a foot or two of water, with our tripods sunk into the muck. We had to get there by wading through water about 3 to 4 feet deep, in our chest-waders, carrying much of our gear on plastic tubs floating on the water. This was in January, fairly cold, with sometimes difficult footing. We definitely took our time! It was mid-day, with overcast skies, so maintaining detail in the white feathers was a little easier than it can sometimes be. This particular swan swooped in from our left, fairly close, and this image is virtually uncropped (just rotated slightly to level the horizon).
